This is a great post. It sounds very similar to concepts in a book that I've been able to preview before it is published. The book is called Driving to Success: Let Your Spirit Take the Wheel. You can learn more about it here: www.spiritdriving.com/books. It will be published in May. Feel free to contact Leila if you might be interested in reviewing it for your blog.

Interesting points Alan,

Not to start a scripture war but your scripture reminds me of Luke 6:45 - a good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good. An evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil...

That's a paraphrase but I see your point. No rotten fruits!

:)

It is Matthew 7:15-20 that springs to mind. And don't take this personally!

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."

I believe this thinking applies to all aspects of our lives, not just "false prophets". The good tree is, by definition, the tree that produces good fruit. You might call this spiritual integrity. A good life has good results and (more reassuringly, perhaps) good results come from a good life. If we lack integrity and do not behave in ways our conscience tells us we should behave, then we should not expect to bring forth good fruit.
